License Requirements

Please read these software license requirements. If you are ever in doubt regarding the appropriate use of a software product, please contact the Campus Help Desk and ask them to create an incident for you. You can also contact the software vendor/manufacturer.

Students

Students who license software through Software Licensing are required to adhere to the following terms and conditions.

  1. You are only eligible to purchase software if you are a current student enrolled at the University of Utah.
  2. You are limited to purchase one license per product.
  3. The software is provided as a single product and its component parts, if any, may not be separated.
  4. You may not install the software on more than one computer.
  5. You may not sell, assign or otherwise transfer software you obtain from Software Licensing.
  6. You are not eligible for upgrades unless otherwise stated.
  7. The license period is limited to the terms stated on your receipt. If a license period is not perpetual, you need to renew the license or remove the software from your computer and destroy the software distribution media.
  8. You are not allowed to duplicate software for any purposes including backup unless otherwise stated in the End User License Agreement.

It is the responsibility of each University student to understand and adhere to software license requirements and copyright laws.

Some software products will be available to download from the Software Licensing web site provided the license allows downloads and we have the capacity to support the download. Software may be picked up at Knowledge Commons one business day after you make your purchase.

Employees

The terms and conditions of software licenses can vary considerably. It is the responsibility of each University organization, faculty and staff member, to understand and adhere to software license requirements. If you are ever in doubt regarding the appropriate use of a software product, please ask us, or the software vendor/manufacturer.

Individuals who purchase software should do so in accordance with their departmental purchasing rules. You may choose to do this by keeping your own departmental authorization records (i.e. a signed Request for Purchase).

When you purchase software from Software Licensing, please be prepared to provide the following information:

  1. Your University Network ID (uNID) and password.
  2. Your organization name or ID, or the organization name or ID of the organization that you are purchasing for.
  3. Your credit card (or pcard) unless you are using the UShop Purchase Order as a payment method.
