Products

Adobe users are asked to evaluate their university-related needs and obtain the minimum software that supports them.

  • UIT recommends Adobe Express for most users. Express is a web-based software for creating and editing graphics, webpages, videos, and brand elements that includes Adobe fonts. Users may access the application from any web browser, without the need to download or install software, and the Adobe Express mobile app on iOS or Android devices lets users create content on the go.
  • Although Acrobat Reader is not included with Express, Adobe users may download and install it for free. Acrobat Reader is a popular Adobe software used to view, print, and comment on PDF documents.
  • Users who require a more comprehensive suite of creativity tools (e.g., Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and Acrobat Pro) may request Adobe Creative Cloud All Apps.

UIT is currently testing the new Adobe account provisioning process. On December 3, 2024, UIT will email Adobe users with instructions on how to activate a new Adobe license.

If the license selected supports Adobe applications already installed on a user’s device, they should continue to function seamlessly. Local IT staff support may be required to install Adobe software on devices owned or managed by the university.

Please note that the university has a limited number of Adobe licenses. After six months of inactivity (six months since last login), Adobe accounts will be flagged for deactivation and users will receive a notification with instructions on how to keep their account active.

If you have questions or need assistance, please email the U’s Adobe account support team at classhelp@utah.edu.

Add-on products

Adobe Captivate and Adobe FrameMaker subscriptions are available to purchase from the software catalog. The products are licensed per user and expire annually in May. Use is limited to employees.

IT administrators

Shared Device Licensing is a licensing model to deploy and manage Adobe applications in labs and shared device setups, where multiple users use the devices and applications. The software license is assigned to a device or computer instead of an individual. Shared Device Licensing is ideal for computers in your labs or classrooms. Shared Device Licensing is not designed for use on machines used by dedicated users.

If you are an IT administrator who needs to install shared devices licenses in computer labs or computer classrooms, please send email to classhelp@utah.edu to request access to the install files. Include your first and last name, uNID, and department.

Leaving the U

Adobe software is tied to the university. You can start a new subscription directly with Adobe if you want to continue to use the software after leaving the university.

If a student or employee has any assets stored in a University of Utah Adobe account that they want to retain and use after leaving the university, the student or employee MUST obtain a personal Adobe ID account BEFORE leaving the University of Utah and the student or employee MUST migrate the assets to their personal Adobe ID account BEFORE the University of Utah deactivates their Federated ID account. Once a Federated ID account is deactivated, it cannot be reactivated and the student or employee WILL lose the ability to access and retrieve any Adobe assets.

Students

Before a student graduates and/or leaves the university, which will result in their Federated ID account being deactivated, students need to transfer assets from their enterprise account to a personal account.

Employees

Before an employee leaves the university, which will result in their university Federated ID account being deactivated, an employee needs to transfer assets from their enterprise account to a personal account.

Unless transferring legally transferrable assets, an employee MUST receive written approval from their direct manager PRIOR to migrating any university asset from their Federate ID account to their personal Adobe ID account.

Please note that not all content can be migrated.

Portfolio files cannot be migrated from an enterprise account to a personal account. Adobe recommends you save pages to Acrobat or screenshot the pages and save to your personal storage.

If you decide you want your Portfolio deleted, please contact the Campus IT Help Desk. Deletion is permanent and cannot be restored.
