SAS Installation Instructions
Installing SAS 9.4 using ISO files is a multi-step process, typically required for academic, enterprise, or research environments. Below are step-by-step instructions for mounting the ISO files and installing SAS 9.4 on a Windows system, which is the most common platform for SAS.
Before You Begin
Make sure you have:
- All required SAS 9.4 ISO files (often multiple ISOs split by disc/content).
- A valid SAS installation data file (SID), usually in .txt or .ini format.
- A Windows machine (Windows 11 preferred).
- At least 20–40 GB of free disk space.
- Admin privileges on the system.
Step 1: Mount the First ISO File
Using Windows File Explorer:
- Locate the first ISO file (often named something like setup.iso or SAS94_DVD1.iso).
- Right-click on the ISO.
- Choose Mount.
- A virtual drive will appear under This PC (e.g., D:\), showing the contents of the ISO.
Step 2: Run the SAS Deployment Wizard
- Open the mounted virtual drive.
- Double-click setup.exe.
- The SAS Deployment Wizard will launch.
Step 3: Choose Deployment Type
- When prompted, choose:
- Install SAS Software (for a new install).
- Click Next.
Step 4: Specify the SAS Installation Data File
- Browse to and select your SAS installation data file (SID file) when prompted.
- Click Next.
This file determines what components you're licensed to install.
Step 5: Select Products to Install
- Choose the SAS products to install (e.g., Base SAS, SAS/STAT, SAS/GRAPH, etc.).
- Click Next after selecting.
Choose carefully based on your license. You can install only what's covered by your SID.
Step 6: Set Installation Directory
- Select or confirm the target directory (default: C:\Program Files\SASHome).
- Click Next.
Step 7: Mount Additional ISOs if Prompted
SAS may prompt for additional media (e.g., Disk 2, Disk 3, etc.).
When prompted:
- Eject the first ISO: Right-click the virtual drive > Eject.
- Mount the next ISO file (e.g., SAS94_DVD2.iso) the same way as before.
- The wizard should auto-detect the new content and continue.
Repeat this process until all required media are processed.
Step 8: Wait for Installation to Complete
This can take 30–90 minutes depending on system speed and selected components.
Step 9: Review Summary and Logs
After installation:
- Review the installation log to verify success.
- Reboot your system if prompted.
Step 10: Start SAS
You can now launch SAS 9.4 from the Start Menu or desktop shortcut.
Optional: Apply Updates (Hot Fixes)
Check SAS's support site to download and apply any hot fixes for your version.
Common Issues
- SID file errors: Ensure your SID file is not expired and matches the SAS version.
- Mounting fails: Use tools like WinCDEmu or PowerISO if Windows fails to mount ISOs.
- Missing ISO files: All required discs must be present; contact your SAS admin or vendor for missing files.
